CTY Talent Search

CTY Talent Search

I will work with gifted math students to further develop their talent and prepare for the eligibility tests for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and other programs.

CTY  identifies and develops the talents of the most advanced K-12 students worldwide. It offers numerous programs around the world, but is best known for its Summer Programs, which are held on many university campuses throughout the United States and the world, and serve over 10,000 students each year.

Each year, CTY's Talent Search recruits highly-able elementary and middle school students (who have scored at or above the 95th percentile on in-grade standardized tests) to qualify for CTY's academic programs. Applicants then take a standardized test that is above their grade level, beyond the ability of most children their age.
  • Students in the 2nd to 4th grades take the School and College Ability Test (SCAT) at the Elementary level.
  • Students in the 5th and 6th grades take the SCAT at the Intermediate and Secondary levels, respectively.
  • Students in the 7th to 11th grades take the SAT, ACT, or the advanced SCAT. For SAT, CTY course eligibility is based on the math and/or verbal subscores of 550 or higher.
 Study of Exceptional Talent

The Study of Exceptional Talent (SET) program at the Johns Hopkins University is for students who exhibit extraordinary mathematical or verbal reasoning ability by scoring at least 700 on either the Mathematical or Verbal part of the SAT Reasoning Test before the age of 13. Only a few hundred students qualify for SET annually. The vast majority of SET members are admitted into the top US colleges.
